Teal is a doctoral student in Middle East area studies at Linacre College, University of Oxford. Her research examines the role of pre-revolutionary Iranian Jewish trade in Iran-Israel relations, exploring the extent to which the Chinese political economy might have replenished a void left by the eventual departure of official Israeli business and diplomatic offices from Iran, as well as Iranian counterparts ultimately withdrawn from Israel. She received an MA from SOAS, University of London as a Kamran Djam Scholar in Iranian studies, an MAIS in comparative and international law from The Hopkins-Nanjing Centre as a Hassenfeld Fellow in Chinese studies, and a BA summa cum laude from Northeastern University in languages, literature and cultures with a minor in Chinese.
