Andrew Melling

I joined the Nissan Institute in late-August 2025, following a year of secondment to the Contemporary Chinese Studies Programme (CCSP) in the Oxford China Centre. Prior to that I worked for many years in the Department of Politics and International Relations (DPIR), in a variety of roles. I took my degrees at Lancaster University (BA Hons in History) and at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University College London (MA in History).

I am the administrative contact within the Nissan Institute. My responsibilities include the administration of the MPhil and MSc in Japanese Studies programmes, and of the Institute's academic visitor and research associate programmes, and the arrangements for the Nissan Seminar in Japanese Studies. Within the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA) I am the administrative lead for Research Methods.
