I am a doctoral candidate in Area Studies (China) at St Catherine’s College, University of Oxford. Before beginning my DPhil, I completed an MSc in Contemporary Chinese Studies at Oxford, as well as an MA and a BA in Political Science at National Taiwan University.
My doctoral research examines the Third Taiwan Strait Crisis of 1995–1996 and Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan in 2022. I analyse how the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of China (Taiwan), and the United States interpreted and constructed these events as crises. My research develops an analytical framework that highlights the political nature of military crises across the Taiwan Strait and asks why cross-strait tensions have become increasingly internationalised.
In addition to cross-strait dynamics among Beijing, Washington, and Taipei, my broader research interests include Chinese foreign relations and East Asian security. I also write occasional analyses of contemporary affairs for online publications such as The Diplomat and East Asia Forum.
