Dr Bo-jiun Jing
Dr Jing Bo-jiun (荊柏鈞) is a Senior Research Fellow in the Oxford Taiwan Studies Programme at the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA). He is also an Associate of the University of Oxford China Centre and a College Advisor at St Antony’s College. His research primarily focuses on Taiwan’s foreign policy towards Southeast Asia, the hedging behaviours of middle powers, and the international relations of the Indo-Pacific region.
His recent research on East Asian geopolitics, the EU’s Indo-Pacific strategy, and Taiwan’s cybersecurity policy has appeared, or will soon appear, in Asian Survey, the Chinese (Taiwan) Yearbook of International Law and Affairs, East Asian Policy, Wenti Yu Yanjiu (問題與研究), the National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR), and the Stimson Center. He is the author of the monograph Taiwan and Southeast Asia: Opportunities and Constraints of Continued Engagement (University of Maryland School of Law, 2016). He has also written commentaries for East Asia Forum, The Diplomat, The Straits Times, and the Bangkok Post.
At OSGA, he teaches the option course 'Taiwan in Comparative Perspective' and co-teaches the core course 'Study of Contemporary China'. He has supervised postgraduate students pursuing the MPhil in Modern Chinese Studies, MPhil in Global and Area Studies, MSc in Contemporary Chinese Studies, and MSt in Diplomatic Studies. He has also served as an assessor for DPhil candidates’ Transfer of Status and Confirmation of Status examinations.
Dr Jing is an Associated Fellow at the Institute for Security and Development Policy (ISDP) in Sweden and Co-Founder of the ASEAN Plus Journal (南洋誌) in Taiwan. Prior to joining OSGA, he served as Head of the Taiwan Studies Project and Research Fellow at ISDP’s Asia Program and Stockholm China Center. He was a member of the 2022 Chatham House–Korea Foundation Next Generation Policy Expert Network. Before pursuing his doctoral studies, he worked as a Research Associate at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore and as an Associate Researcher at the Mainland Affairs Council in Taiwan.
He holds a PhD in International Political Economy from King’s College London, an MA in International Relations and International Economics from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and a BA in Political Science and Economics from National Taiwan University.
