We are extremely honoured to host the Brazilian Sociologist and Writer José Henrique Bortoluci, author of the O Que é Meu (published by Fósforo Editora in 2023) in Oxford. The English translation of the book, by Fitzcarraldo Editions, is coming out this May.
In What Is Mine, Bortoluci uses interviews with his truck driver father, Didi, to retrace the recent history of Brazil and of his family. From Jaú to the Amazon, and back, the book interweaves the history of a nation with that of a man, uncovering parallels between cancer and capitalism.
The book received the APCA Award 2023 (Best Essay) and has been translated into more than 10 languages.
Join us in May for this book launch and for a conversation with the author, and Claire Williams (Professor in Brazilian Literature and Culture – Modern Languages) and Laura Trajber Waisbich (Director of the Brazilian Studies Programme - LAC/OSGA).
All welcome. To attend, please register here: José Henrique Bortoluci in conversation about WHAT IS MINE at Oxford Tickets, Wed, May 1, 2024 at 5:00 PM | Eventbrite.
