Dina Dong

Dina is a first/second-generation Chinese immigrant from the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, Chippewa, Haudenosaunee, Huron-wendat, and Mississaugas of the Credit, now treaty land (Toronto Purchase, Treaty 13) Markham, Canada (Turtle Island). She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto in international relations, cinema studies, and political science. Combining her interests in film, photojournalism, and politics, Dina worked as a political staffer prior to reading the MPhil in Global and Area Studies. While her research interests are vast, she is currently researching diasporas, cultural reproduction, and identity (race, nationality, politics of belonging), with attempts to find frameworks that reject the West vs Rest framework. Outside of her academic life, Dina is involved with the outdoor community and can be found volunteering at various organizations.
