OSGA is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Diego Sánchez-Ancochea as its next Head of Department. He will take up his post in August 2025.
Diego has been part of the University of Oxford since 2008, arriving here after five years at the Institute for the Study of the Americas (University of London). He was head of the Oxford Department of International Development (ODID) from 2019 to 2023. Diego currently holds a joint appointment at OSGA and ODID. In addition to his academic responsibilities, he serves as Associate Head for People in the Social Science Division and as sub-Warden of St Antony’s College.
OSGA is a world-class institution and plays a key role at the University. I look forward to working with colleagues to strengthen each of the School's regional centres while also building inter-centre collaborations.
Diego has contributed to a broad range of international journals, including World Development, the Journal of Latin American Studies, Economy and Society, and the Latin American Research Review. He is also the author of three monographs (two co-authored with Juliana Martínez Franzoni), and has co-edited four books. He regularly consults for organisations such as CEPAL, ILO, Oxford Analytica, and UNDP.
Diego says, "I am delighted to become Head of the School. OSGA is a world-class institution and plays a key role at the University. I look forward to working with colleagues to strengthen each of the School's regional centres while also building inter-centre collaborations. I also thank Paul Chaisty for all his hard work during the last three years."
OSGA is excited to welcome Diego as Head of OSGA. His expertise and vision will further strengthen the department's mission to explore cultural, economic, political, and social issues by studying world regions in both local and global contexts, with a focus on comparative analysis.
