On 16 May 2025 we were delighted to welcome former OSGA students back to Oxford to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the School. Alumni had the chance to catch up with friends and staff before filling a packed lecture theatre at St Antony’s College.

After an introduction by the current Head of School, Professor Paul Chaisty, and reflections on 20 years of SIAS/OSGA by Professor Roger Goodman, the keynote speech was delivered by Ambassador Kevin Rudd on the subject of ‘Navigating the “Foreign” in 21st Century Foreign Policy: The Role of Area Studies in Understanding the Future of US-China Relations’.

The speech was warmly received and generated many thoughtful questions from the audience.

This was followed by a dinner for alumni and staff at St Antony’s, with the evening culminating in live music provided by the Social Sciences Division’s own band, ‘Risk Register’!

The anniversary weekend continued on Saturday 17 May, with roundtable discussions on ‘Social and Economic Challenges and Opportunities’ and ‘Challenges and Opportunities in Politics and International Relations’.

Thank you to everyone who attended and took part to make this inaugural OSGA alumni event such a success.
