A Hallyu South Korean Studies Programme is to be launched at Oxford University, with the purpose of conducting sustainable Korean Wave (Hallyu) research. This will involve appointing one Creative Fellow in the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (AMES) and one Social Science Fellow, who will be based at OSGA; the latter post will focus on the political, anthropological, historical, sociological and/or economic impact of the Korean wave.
The goal of the Programme is to foster the next generation of Hallyu scholars, support Hallyu creative work in Korea and the UK, and promote the work of researchers to globalise Hallyu at Oxford University. It will also hold regular events showcasing research on South Korea. The aim is for the Programme to run for five years and serve as the foundation for establishing a Centre or Institute for South Korean Studies.
