Mind the Gaps: Exploring Income Inequality in Latin America

Project overview

This project focused on the analysis of income inequality in Latin America, one of the most unequal regions in the world. On the one hand, it explored the costs that a bad income distribution has had for Latin American development and the lessons of the region´s experience for the rest of the world. On the other hand, the paper considered differences between countries in the region both historically and also during the commodity boom of the 2000s. We found that political institutions played a central role in explaining differences in income distribution among Latin American countries.
