Dr Bo-jiun Jing (Senior Research Fellow, Taiwan Studies Programme) spoke to Nikkei Asia about the prospects of future trade agreements between the UK and Taiwan.
The article was written in response to statements from the UK's departing envoy in Taipei, John Dennis.
Dr Jing comments:
"Britain shouldn't restrict itself from deepening engagement with Taiwan based on fears that China will retaliate [...] Given Taiwan's pivotal role in semiconductors, artificial intelligence and other advanced tech, strengthening trade and investment ties will benefit Britain's economy and strengthen its position in the Indo-Pacific."
