About the Georgian Programme
The Georgian Programme is hosted by Russian and East European Studies in OSGA. In 2017, REES established the programme to act as a focus for the academic study of and research on Georgia, in its regional environment, across the University of Oxford.
The Georgian Programme works:
- To help coordinate the study and research about Georgia in the social sciences and the humanities, including modern history
- To ensure close interaction in particular between REES and the Russian and Eurasian Studies Centre at St. Antony’s College on all matters related to Georgia
- To host postdoctoral scholars from Georgia, on visiting attachments for periods of up to one year
- To organise seminars and other meetings on Georgian topics, and to showcase speakers from Georgia
- To raise the profile of Georgian studies and research in the UK and beyond, through interaction with other universities and research centres with similar interests
- To showcase materials and sources on Georgia especially the Bodleian Library’s collections related to Georgia and the region
The Georgian Programme is affiliated with The Oxford Seminar for the Caucasus and Central Asia (TOSCCA), which organises seminars and events related to the wider region.
A Steering Group for the Georgian Programme guides its development:
- Professor Roy Allison (St. Antony’s College; OSGA)
- Professor Paul Chaisty (St. Antony’s College; OSGA/DPIR)
- Professor Chris Gerry (St Antony's College; OSGA; Chair of REES)
- Professor Dan Healey (St Antony’s College; OSGA/History)
- Professor Edmund Herzig (Wadham College; Oriental Institute)
- Professor Neil MacFarlane (St. Anne’s College; DPIR)
- Dr Jonathan Wheatley (Social Sciences, Oxford Brookes)
The Georgian Programme gratefully acknowledges the generous support of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation under the aegis of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Georgia.
