I joined the University in September 1993 as Secretary to the Programming Research Group at Oxford University Computing Laboratory (OUCL) now known as the Department of Computer Science and in 1996 I transferred internally from that position to become the Academic Administrator’s Secretary. In December 1998 I joined the Nissan Institute of Japanese. In 2004 the Institute came under the umbrella of the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA), formerly known as the School for Interdisciplinary Area Studies (SIAS).
I have overall responsible for Programme administration for prospective and on-course students, including the day-to-day running of the MSc and MPhil programmes in the Institute; managing and administering the exams process and student scholarships, bursaries and travel grants made available by the unit, including liaison with the OSGA Finance Team. I also manage all events for the Nissan Institute throughout the year and arrange accommodation for visiting speakers and advising on travel; act as Secretary to three committees: Nissan Institute and Benefaction Management Committee; the Teaching Committee and the Examination Committee.
I am responsible for maintaining and developing the Institute’s Canvas; Website and Social Media sites. I oversee general building matters – reporting defects and following up on them; taking responsibility for health and safety and security matters. I am the Fire Marshal for the Institute and have been trained in the use of firefighting equipment, I have passed a course on Emergency First Aid at Work and I am also trained in the use of the Automated External Defibrillation equipment.
I am also a member of the University's “bank” of Bullying and Harassment Advisors. As an advisor we will listen to your concerns and act as a sounding board to advise on the options that are available to you. All information containing allegations of harassment are treated in strict confidence. In January 2023 I completed a NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Advocacy in the Workplace.
I have completed over 30 years’ service at the University, and in December 26 years of them will be at the Nissan Institute.
And when I have done all of the above on a daily basis I like to go home and spend time with my horse Westy.
