State of surprise?

This talk will explore the persistent sense of surprise in Euro-Atlantic discussions of Russia, reflecting on some specific examples and on some of the practical and conceptual reasons for it before turning to propose ways to address this.

Dr. Andrew Monaghan is author of The New Politics of Russia: Interpreting Change, MUP, 2016, which he wrote while he was an Academic Visitor at St Antony's College, Oxford. He is currently Senior Research Fellow, Russia and Eurasia Programme, Chatham House.
