South Asia Society Event: Minister for Information, Broadcasting and Culture

The newly-formed South Asia Society holds one of its first events today, Thursday 6 December, 5.00pm-6.00pm at Brasenose College.

The minister will speak on the role of the media in shaping public policy, and then take part in a Q&A.

Fawad Hussain Chaudhry is serving as the Federal Minister of Information and Broadcasting in the current Government of Pakistan. He assumed the charge of the Ministry on August 20, 2018. After assuming charge, he has done away with political censorship in state media and given editorial independence to state owned media i.e. PTV and Radio Pakistan. He has also promised drastic reforms in the Ministry in the coming months to improve its performance. In addition to his role as Federal Minister, he is also the Secretary Information and Central Spokesman for the ruling party.

A lawyer by training, he has been working in the electronic media and is known for co hosting the television programme ‘Khabar Kay Peechay’ on Neo News. He has also served as the Special Assistant to Prime Minister (2012-13).
