Stuart M. McManus is Assistant Professor of Pre-Modern World History at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He received his Ph.D. in history (secondary field in classical philology) from Harvard University, and prior to coming to CUHK, he taught Mexican and ancient Mediterranean history for two years at the University of Chicago as an IFK postdoctoral fellow. His first book, Empire of Eloquence: The Classical Rhetorical Tradition in Colonial Latin America and the Iberian World, was published Cambridge University Press in 2021, and his new book, The World of 1619, is under contract with Harvard University Press.
