An informal photographic community emerged in Kharkiv in the mid-1960s and gradually coalesced into an artistic movement nowadays known as the Kharkiv School of Photography. The School encompasses three generations of artists, whose photographs and photo-based art works feature undeniable aesthetic affinities. The talk will profile the major participants of the School with a particular emphasis on their subversive stance towards the ideological and aesthetic dogmas of the Soviet realist art.
