New phase of collaboration on the Arab Public Data Initiative

The Arab Council for the Social Sciences (ACSS) is pleased to announce a new phase of its collaboration on the Arab Public Data Initiative with the Odum Institute for Research in Social Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

We are also very happy that the University of Oxford will join the Initiative in this new phase (2023-2025). With funding from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Initiative was launched in June 2018 and aims to promote the norm and best practices of data management and data sharing among social scientists and research institutions in the Arab region within the concept of knowledge as a public good.
Under this Initiative, the ACSS conducts a series of training workshops on social science data management and sharing to help build capacity and create data management networks in institutions and countries in the region. In addition, it established the ACSS Dataverse – dataverse.theacss.org – to help preserve and facilitate access to social science research data on and in the Arab region. The ACSS Dataverse went live in June 2019 and is the first interdisciplinary open-access social science data repository in the Arab region available to both individuals and institutions.
The partnership of the ACSS with the Odum Institute and the University of Oxford will expand activities and deepen engagement on the timely issue of data management and open data across the Arab region.
