The School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies (SIAS) seeks to appoint a permanent Associate Professor of Russian and Eurasian Political Economy, in association with a Non-Tutorial Fellowship at St Antony’s College, as described in the further particulars. The postholder will be based at SIAS, Bevington Road, Oxford.
Since the 1950s Oxford has been at the forefront of research on the study of the Soviet economy and then post-Soviet economies. In the twenty-first century as Eurasia re-configures itself in the context of a more assertive Russian leadership, the political economy of the region is a subject of growing global significance. It is intended that appointment to this post will ensure that students continue to obtain a balanced interdisciplinary training and that Oxford continues to lead in research on the economies of this critical global region.
You will engage in advanced study and research, and will publish findings in international journals and academic presses, as well as seeking opportunities for collaborative and externally funded research projects. You will contribute to the School’s graduate curriculum in the teaching of Russian and East European Studies (REES); supervise graduate and research students; and engage in University examining. There will also be a requirement to participate in the administration of the Faculty, and of the College. You will have a doctorate in political economy, economics, or a closely related field; expertise in the economies of Russia and the other states of the former Soviet Union; and experience of using quantitative research methods. You will demonstrate a proven record of research and publication; excellence in teaching; training in economic analysis to at least undergraduate level or in a related field of study with an economics component; and a commitment to Interdisciplinary Area Studies as an intellectual project.
